E-assignment 4

The Land of Shadows

She had no idea of where she was or how she had came to be here. When she looked around she could only see darkness and the shadows that were lurking just outside her line of sight.
The shadows scared her. Who were they? What did they want?
Without knowing why, she started to walk, faster and faster until she was running. Why was she running? What was she running towards?
The shadows around her were closing in on her, no matter how fast she ran, and she started to feel a tinge of fear. Somewhere inside her she knew that if she allowed the shadows to reach her, she would be swallowed by the darkness and become one of them.
As soon as this thought had formed in her mind, she started to see small flickers of colors amongst the shadows. She slowed down when she reached one of them and stopped in front of it. She stretched out her hand and touched it, and when she did the little ball of color exploded and an image appeared in her mind, the image was of a man and a woman, with a small child, smiling towards her, and with the image came a word; family…
- My family, she said out loud and winched when the sound of her voice echoed in the emptiness.
Suddenly she realized what she was looking for; she was looking for her family.
And as this thought had formed in her mind she could hear a quiet voice echoing in through the darkness.
- Alice…
- Yes?, she answered.
- Alice….
- I´m coming, I´m coming! , she yelled and started to run again towards the voice.
As she started to run she felt the shadows closing in on her, they didn´t want her to reach whoever was calling her.
She ran faster and faster, but the shadows came closer and closer. She could almost touch them now, that’s how close they were. She knew that if she slowed down, she would be trapped in the darkness, forever.
- Alice…. The voice called her name once again and now she could see a flicker of light ahead of her. She got closer and closer and as she reached it, she could feel the shadows tugging her back, but she broke loose and threw herself into the light.
She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling in her bedroom.
- Alice…., a voice said beside her and she turned towards it.
- Did you have a bad dream?, her husband asked.
- Yes, she answered and then smiled at him. But it was just a dream, just a dream…..

A beautiful mistake

I did not want you,
I did not need you,
I did not expect you,

You were a mistake,
But such a beautiful mistake,
I had to let go of my dreams,
But I started new ones,
I discovered a world I would never have seen,
If you had not been,

You were a mistake,
A glitch in my life plan,
But such a beautiful mistake you were,
You made my life complete.

Part 3

- Ok, I guess this is it.
- Why do you say that?
- I´m saying that this is it. I´m finished.
- I don´t think I understand. What are you finished with?
- Oh, don´t do this to me. I know that you know exactly what I mean.
- No, I don´t.
- Yes, you do. We have discussed this over and over again.
- i thought that it was like all the other times. I didn´t think you meant it.
- But this time is different, I do mean it!
- Please, don´t do it. I beg you.
- You have known this for weeks.
- But I´m not ready yet.
- Too bad.
- You don´t have to be mean about it.
- Yes, I do. `Cause obviously you can´t understand it if I don´t pound it into your thick skull.
- But, I don´t want you to do it. I won´t let you.
- You have to, you have no choice. You´re not the boss of me.
- Please, don´t do this.
- It´s too late, I´m leaving now.
- But I love you!
- And I don´t love you, I can´t do this anymore. Goodbye.

Part 2

In a little village in a far away land, there was a small village in which it lived a young couple with their small daughter. As night were falling, the family gathered around the fireplace.

- Please tell me a goodnight story daddy, said the little girl to her father.
- Aren´t you supposed to be in bed by now?, he saked the little girl that were standing beside his chair in her red pyjamas.
- No, not yet. I´m not tired, the little girl said.
- Ok, then, jump up, he said and patted his knees and the girl climbed up and settled in his lap.
- What story would you like to hear?
- Could you tell me the one about when you were a soldier in the war daddy? It is my favourite.
- Really? he said, sounding surprised.
- Aren´t you araid that you will get nightmares? It´s quite a scary story, he said warningly.
- No, I´m not, the little girl anwered. ´Cause when I become a soldier I have to know that kind of stuff.
- So you´re gonna be a soldier? He smiled down at her.
- Yes I am, I´m gonna be just like you daddy. I´m gonna be the best soldier ever!, she said with a stubborn look on her face.
The her mother came in to the room.
- Time to go to bed honey, she said to the little girl.
- But mom, I haven´t heard the story yet!, the little girl complained.
- Daddy will have to tell you the story another time, her mother said firmly.
- But mom!
- No buts young lady. It´s way past your bed time.
- We´d better do as she says, her father said.
- Ok, the little girl said reluctantly and walked over to her mother who took her hand.
- Good night honey, her father said as they walked towards the little girls bedroom.
- Good night daddy.

E-writing assignment 2

Part 1:
b) A childlike creature dressed in muddy rags is rudely awakened from her sleep by what appears to be an inquisitive leprechaun prodding her with an oak twig.
- Stop doing that! Ann said and turned her back to the figure standing beside her.
- Please, miss Ann, you need to wake up now, the leprechaun said with a squeky voice.
- Leave me alone, can´t you see I´m sleeping.
- But miss Ann, I need to tell you something important.
- Oh, alright then, Ann said with a groan and threw of her blanket and turned towards the little man.
- And what is it that is so important that you have to wake me up during my afternoon nap?, she said, and gave the leprechaun a stern look.
- I´m really sorry to wake you, but as I said, it is important.
- Yes?
- Let me introduce myself, my name is Patrick and I was sent here to tell you that your friend, Talia the elf, needs your help.
- What? Has something happened? Is she alright?
- She wouldn´t tell me, the leprechaun said with a sigh at her reaction. She just told me to come and tell you to come to the old oak tree by the lake and that she will be waiting there for you.
- Are you sure she meant right now? It doesn´t sound like it was that urgent, can´t I finish my nap first?
- She said to tell you to come as quickly as you can, so I don´t think so.
- Ok, ok. I get the message, Ann said and reluctantly got up.

- Are you sure that she meant this oak tree? Ann said doubtingly to the leprechaun as they arrived at the clearing which seemed to be deserted.
- Yes, yes. I´m sure, Patrick said impatiently. Maybe she´s waiting on the other side? He gestured Ann forward and she stepped around the big oak tree.
- Surprise!, a mix of voices yelled as soon as she came around the tree.
- What is this? she asked.
- It is your birthday party, silly, a voice said and Ann´s friend Talia stepped forward and gave her a hug.
- But I told you I didn´t want a party Talia, said Ann in a whiny tone.
- Oh I know, but I wanted you to have one. Everyone should celebrate their birthday, even you Ann, Talia said and smiled at Ann.
- And you!, Ann turned towards Patrick the leprechaun. You tricked me!
- No I didn´t, he said and smiled. I just told you what you needed to know and nothing else. That is not lying.
- Ok, I´ll give you that, but I will not trust you again.
- Fair enough, he shrugged his shoulders.
- But now, if you all would excuse me, I think I want a piece of my birthday cake now, Ann said, and with a smile she turned towards the big cake waiting for her by the old oak tree.

torsdag 30 juni 2011

She put a cigarette between her dry lips and glanced at the sky.
“It´s almost time.” She looked at me. “Are you ready?”
I opened my mouth to answer, but my mouth was dry as the desert and nothing came out so I closed it again and simply nodded my head.
She looked at me and must have sensed that I was nervous as she gave me a pat on my shoulder before she turned and opened the door. She beckoned me to go ahead and I took the few steps that led up to the doors. I felt like turning around and run back to the car and lock myself inside it and refuse to open it until she promised to take me home again. But I knew that it was no use. I took a deep breath and took the last few steps through the door and when she followed me and the door closed behind me, I felt like they closed the door to a jail cell, my jail cell.
When my father introduced me to my new stepmother for the first time, I could never imagine that the beautiful woman that stood before me would change my world so completely. She was a beautiful woman in her designer suit and her red hair with a brilliant smile, not at all in the same class as my frumpy old dad.
After my mother died when I was very young, my father had taken on a job as a salesman for a big global company, which meant that he had to visit customers all over the world, which meant that he had to travel very much and sometimes stay away from home for weeks at a time. At first, it had been really hard on both of us but we soon adjusted to our situation and I had gotten used to being home alone with my nanny while my father travelled.  But now, when this new woman came into our lives, my life would change completely and there was nothing I could do about it.
It all started that summer day when my father announced that they were getting married at the end of the summer. I was shocked. I had become used to her presence when my father came home from his business trips, a time he normally devoted to me. But I had accepted this since she seemed to make my father happy in ways that I couldn´t. But somewhere in my mind I had never foreseen that my father would ever marry another woman. The thought that my mother someday would be replaced had never crossed my mind.
“What does this mean?” I had asked him.
“This means that Serena will become your new stepmother. She will move in with us and take care of you while I´m gone.”
I had been so shocked that I didn’t say a word while my father and Serena beamed at me.
“We will have so much fun, don’t you think?” she had said and given me a hug. “Just us girls.” The thought had given me the chills.

Not long after the day that Serene moved into our house, it was time for my father to go away on one of his long business trips.
“I will be back before you know it,” he had said to me when he gave me a hug goodbye. “And remember, listen to Serena, she´s in charge now.” I had looked over his shoulder when he said this and I had seen the smile that Serena had on her face, it was not a friendly smile.
And sure enough, as soon as my father had left, Serena had turned towards me.
“Go upstairs and get the bags that I have packed for you that´s standing in your room.”
I stared at her. “What do you mean?”
“Don´t ask stupid questions, just do as I say and bring down the bags to the car.” she had said and walked off.
In the car Serena had told me that she had enrolled me at an all-girls boarding school, and that I would live there from now on.
And now here we were. As we stood inside the doors, a big woman who looked like she had never smiled in her entire life came up to us.
“Is this the Wiseman girl?” she asked Serena, like I wasn’t there.
“Yes, this is she.”
“Then you can say goodbye now and I will take her to her room.” When she said this it finally hit me. Serena was really going to leave me here.
“Please, don’t leave me here.” I grabbed Serena´s hand but she yanked it away and looked down at me with disgust.
“You will do as you’re told.”
With this final statement, she turned and walked out the door while the big, scary woman took my bags and started walking in the opposite direction.
I followed Serena with my eyes when she walked back to her car and got into it, hoping that she would turn around and come back and take me home. She never did.
